The Boring Details:

Participants will be asked to register at a table and will then receive a map/manifest before the start of the ride/race. The map and/or manifest will have designated grocery store locations marked and a shopping list. Riders are to go to the grocery store checkpoints and buy the non-perishable food items from the checklist. There is no registration fee, the $10 and you need to bring go towards the purchase food items. The first participant to get to the finish after visiting all the checkpoints and purchasing all the items from the list wins! Cranksgiving is lots of fun and for a great cause, it also helps shine a positive light on the local cycling community. Expect to spend about $2 at each grocery store ($10 total), it is required to keep all your receipts.

The ride/race is approximately 10 - 18 miles depending on whether you do the long or short route. Speed will be an obvious factor for some, however, knowing your way around the city and the aisles of a supermarket can be advantageous.

Racing is not required, you can simply participate by riding with a group and visiting the checkpoints at your own pace. We want to make sure everyone is included, all bikes and ages are welcomed. Please keep in mind that the cause is what's most important.

We encourage riders to participate in the ride as part of a team, group, and/or organization. Round up your co-workers, crew, etc and do it collectively. It's more fun with a group and you can leave someone outside the grocery store watching the bikes. Ideally all teams would be wearing their respective group/club t-shirts or cycling jerseys. Represent your group by participating in this positive cycling event, it's more fun with friends!

Once again, it's totally okay to simply ride for the cause, racing is not required. The majority of the riders are just doing it for fun and the worthy cause. We will also have prizes for the most charitable participants. If speed is not your thing you can ride the event as a scavenger hunt instead of a race. Last year over 100 local cyclists participated making it the largest alleycat in South Florida once again, everyone had a great time and the Camillus House was very appreciative about Cranksgiving. This year we're hoping to appeal to more riders. Help us collect more food than all the previous years!

It's back! Cranksgiving Miami returns for its seventh installment come Saturday, November 21st 2015. Registration 2pm.

For the past six years the Cranksgiving Miami food drive alleycat race & ride has helped collect non-perishable goods for those in need during the holiday season. To those unfamiliar with Cranksgiving, it's basically a food scavenger hunt on bicycles with all the goods collected being donated to Camillus House at the end of the race.

Details:

Participants will be asked to register at a table and will then receive a map/manifest before the start of the race. The map and/or manifest will have designated grocery store locations marked and a shopping list. Riders are to go to the grocery store checkpoints and buy the non-perishable food items from the checklist. There is no registration fee, the $10 & you need to bring go towards the purchase food items. The first participant to get to the finish after visiting all the checkpoints & purchasing all the items from the list wins! Cranksgiving is lots of fun and for a great cause, it also helps shine a positive light on the local cycling community. Expect to spend about $2 at each grocery store ($10 total), it is required to keep all your receipts.

The race/ride is approximately 10 - 17 miles depending on whether you do the long or short route, speed will be an obvious factor. However, knowing your way around the city & the aisles of a supermarket can be advantageous.

*Racing is not required, you can simply participate by riding with a group and visiting the checkpoints at your own pace. We want to make sure everyone is included, all bikes are welcomed. Please keep in mind that the cause is what's most important.

We're encouraging riders to participate in the ride as part of a team, group, and/or organization. So round up your co-workers, crew, etc and do it collectively. Ideally all teams would be wearing their respective group t-shirts or cycling jerseys. Represent your group by participating in this positive cycling event, it's more fun with friends!

Once again, it's totally okay to simply ride for the cause, racing is not a requirement. Most of the riders are just doing it for fun. We will also have prizes for the most charitable participants. If speed is not your thing you can ride the event as a scavenger hunt instead of a race. Last year over 180 local cyclists participated making it the largest alleycat in South Florida, everyone had a great time and the Camillus House was very appreciative about Cranksgiving. This year we're hoping to appeal to more riders, thus collecting more items for those in need!
The map and/or manifest will have designated grocery store locations marked and a shopping list. Riders are to go to the grocery store checkpoints and buy the non-perishable food items from the checklist. There is no registration fee, the $10 you need to bring go towards the purchase food items.

The race is approximately 10 - 17 miles depending on whether you do the long or short route, speed will be an obvious factor.

It's okay for those who wish to ride but not necessarily race. We will also have prizes for the most charitable participants. If speed is not your thing you can ride the event as a scavenger hunt instead of a race. Last year over 170 local cyclists participated making it the largest alleycat in South Florida, everyone had a great time and the Camillus House was very appreciative about Cranksgiving. This year we're hoping to appeal to more riders, thus collecting more items for those in need!
The Camillus House was very pleased with our efforts and by the amount of non-perishable items we collected on bicycle. Thanks to Gary Medenhall, Eddy Stevens, all the sponsors and most of all to everyone who participated in this worthy cause.

The race started at 3:20pm and the top riders finished at approximately 4:27pm. Total distance was 17 miles and required stopping at five grocery store check points. Prizes and giveaways were distributed at Government Center and limited spoke cards were issued to those who dropped off their items at the Camillus House. After the event a group of us headed over to The Filling Station for food & drinks. Once again thanks to everyone involved and hope to see you all next year.
Racing is not required, you can simply participate at your leisure if you desire. We want to include everyone, what's most important is the cause.

For the past two years the Miami Cranksgiving food drive alleycat race has been a huge success. This year we're hoping to make it greater thus helping to collect more non-perishable goods for those in need during the holiday season.

Mark your calendars:

Participants will receive a map at the start of the race with grocery stores locations & a shopping list (manifest). Riders will go to 5 grocery store checkpoints and buy non-perishable food items from the checklist. There is no registration fee, the $10 goes to purchase the items. All collected goods will be donated to Camillus House at the end of the race. This is for a great cause and at the same time shines a positive spotlight on the local cycling community. Expect to spend about $2 at each grocery store. We collected and donated an estimated $1000 in non-perishable food items to the Camillus House. Great ride for a worthy cause!

The 1st place racer came in 70 minutes after the start and won the coveted Chrome jersey, the only one in South Florida. Total distance was 17 miles and required stopping at five grocery store check points. Prizes and giveaways were distributed at Government Center and limited spoke cards were issued only to those who dropped off their items at the Camillus House after the race. The Miami Herald was there to cover the event, you can read the article here.
It goes down this Saturday, November 20th in Downtown. Don't forget to bring a bicycle, $10, a lock, and a bag or basket to carry the items. We will be meeting on the SW corner of Government Center by the Orange Peels at 2pm, please do not be late.

Registration:
The first 50 to register will receive the November Issue of Urban Velo. Also, Clif Bar has supplied us with Clif Shot Bloks for all participants. Gary Medenhall has been generous enough to bring Gatorade for participants again this year, he will be helping me with registration, prize distribution, etc. If you have any questions about the event come and ask us at the registration table.

Rules & Prizes:
Participants will have two options: The fast cyclists racing the alleycat will have to go to all 5 checkpoints (17mi) and will be eligible for all the prizes. If speed is not your forte then you are encouraged to ride Cranksgiving in a scavenger hunt fashion and will only be required to hit up 4 of the 5 checkpoints, these cyclists will only be eligible for the "Most Charitable" prize. Last year everyone had fun whether racing or riding at a moderate pace. What's most important is that we collectively gather food items for those in need this Thanksgiving, let's show South Florida that cyclists can come together and make a positive difference.

We will have prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 1st Fixed Gear, 1st Female, 1st MTB, 1st Out-Of-Towner, DFL, and Most Charitable.

We will also have extra prizes & giveaways for a few lucky riders. Over 275 have RSVP'd on Facebook, I'm hoping about 100-150 will actually show up. I want to remind everyone that this is a charity race, ride safe and be courteous to others. Local forecast are predicting amicable weather so I'm excited to see everyone out there tomorrow. Remember to arrive by 2pm so we can get registration rolling. All bicycles are welcomed. Helmets encouraged.

Once the race is finished and everyone is accounted for we will issue prizes to the winners and raffle off a few extra items. We will then ride a few blocks north to the Camillus House to donate all the non-perishable items collected. Limited Cranksgiving spoke cards will be issued to participants once they drop-off their items.

After the drop-off at Camillus House we will lead a group ride a few blocks south to The Filling Station for food & drinks.

Thanks to all of this year's sponsors and remember to support those who support us.

The Miami Bike Scenehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01488151792961944133noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7076252342654893053.post-13964204083504922232010-08-19T02:36:00.050-04:002011-08-31T03:17:52.475-04:00Cranksgiving 2010 coming November 20th!<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqeur27Nc-TtOkn70Qxl2hOFbMUIPpG5brwGcFsHDl0WvVyShjkUOFfwKWzUdMBl3SOFqE2HDgsnfIe7bth8FAy5WQ658dF7PYhoguPNVRSf-2q-bBKoFgdCFkL5wAan7ulc5s8yF_YFQ/s400/cranksgiving_front-2010.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5525444329204242514" />

It's back!

Last year's 1st annual Miami Cranksgiving food drive alleycat race was a huge success. This year we hope to make it greater thus helping to collect more non-perishable goods for those in need this holiday season.

Mark your calendars:

Cranksgiving Food Drive Alleycat Race 2010
Saturday, November 20th
2:00pm signup, 2:30pm start

Government Center (by the Orange Peels)
150 NW First Street
Miami, FL. 33130

You will be required to keep all receipts.

The race is tentatively 17 miles, speed is an obvious advantage but knowing your way around the city & the aisles of a supermarket can also help you significantly.

For those who prefer not to ride really fast it's okay. There will also be prizes for most charitable. If speed is not your thing you can ride the event as a scavenger hunt instead of a race. Last year 100 local cyclists participated making it the largest alleycat in South Florida, everyone had a great time and the Camillus House was very thankful about the event. Hope to see you there this year, all bikes welcomed.

Participants need to be at Government Center at 2pm. Do not show up late.
Bring $10, a bicycle, and a bag or basket to carry the items.
All bicycles are welcomed. Helmets encouraged.

We will not meet near the escalators/Metromover like we usually do for Friday Critical Mass. Instead we will meet a few yards west by "the orange peels" near the corner of NW 2nd Ave/1st St. We're doing this to be out of the way of pedestrians/public transit commuters & to avoid religious zealots.

Participants will have two options. The fast cyclists actually racing will go to all 5 checkpoints (17mi) and will be competing for all the prizes. The slower people will have to hit up just 3 checkpoints, these cyclists will only be competing for "Most Charitable".

More details will be given out at the race.. I cannot stress enough to be there by 2pm

We will have prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 1st Fixed Gear, 1st Female, 1st MTB, 1st Out Of Towner, DFL, and Most Charitable.

Gary Mendenhall who has been helping Tony Blazejack and I with the race will be providing homemade oatmeal cookies & Gatorade to participants. O.N.E. Drinks will also be there at the finish of the race giving cyclists drinks.

Once the race is finished and everyone is accounted for we will issue prizes to the winners and possibly raffle off a few extra items. We will then ride a few blocks north to the Camillus House to donate all the non-perishable items collected.

Remember this is a charity race. Ride safe & be courteous.
Excited to see everyone out there tomorrow.
